Wisconsin ARES/RACES
THIRD ANNUAL EC CONFERENCE
Saturday, 1 December 2001, 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Spiedini's Restaurant, PLOVER, WI
We sought a more central location for this year's meeting, to allow easier
access for our ECs from the northern and western parts of the state. Plover
is in Portage County, very close to Stevens Point. The restaurant is the
site of past QCWA meetings and has been recommended as a good site, with
podium and PA system for speakers. Lunch will be served at noon, and will
consist of Chicken Parnigiano with Pasta. Cost for the meal will be $5.99
plus tax and tip. A vegetarian dish will also be available for those who
desire it. You need not send money ahead of time - it will be collected at
the restaurant (have change with you). However, it is very important that
you notify Stan that you are coming, because a head count must be provided
to the restaurant a week before the meeting. If you plan to attend, please
tell Stan ASAP via snailmail, email, packet, HF or by any other means.
Also, please indicate if you prefer the vegetarian dish.
The agenda is under development, but several items are already set. Don
Michalski (W9IXG), our Section Manager, will have some words of wisdom
concerning the ARRL EmCom courses. SEC Stan Kaplan (WB9RQR) will discuss
new expectations for all ARES/RACES units in light of the recent changes in
our society. Jack Morrison (N9SFG), designer of the 2001 SET, will do a
critique of the event. Wisconsin's packet network will be a topic. Others
will be added as the agenda takes form.
While the conference is designed specifically for: 1. ARES ECs, 2, AECs, 3.
RACES Radio Officers and 4. Deputy ROs, it is also open to other hams and
non-hams that are interested in the role of Amateur Radio in emergency
communications. However, all attendees must register a reservation with
Stan ahead of time.
