Dick Trempe, (formally KA9DQQ), a long time RMRA member, served on the RMRA Board of Directors in the 1999-2000 term. He was the husband of Pat (Pawlicki) Trempe, KA9KJY.
He was born in Menominee, Michigan on October 26, 1938. He lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for the early part of his life. He graduated from Marquette University with a degree in mechanical engineering. He worked for J.I. Case as a mechanical engineer; A.O. Smith as a supervisor of automotive engineering; and later as an instructor of mechanical design at Northcentral Technical College in Wausau. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Wausau Noon Lions Club, and was active in Junior Achievement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing motorcycling and sailing. When he lived in Milwaukee, he was instrumental in starting sailboat races at Fox Point. He raced in many of them. In addition to the RMRA, he was a member of the ARRL, Wisconsin Valley Radio Association, Tomahawk Repeater Association, and Antigo Repeater Association. He was a member and Past Presidentof Army M.A.R.S.. He was involved in many club activities that help promote Amateur Radio: Dream Flight Wausau, Boy Scout Camporees, Field Day, and Y2K communications. Dick was an "Elmer" to many Amateurs taking a particular interest in young people who were interested in the hobby. He was an He was an ARRL Official Observer, and ARRL Official Relay Station providing Amateur Radio news reports on local repeaters. He started a local "Hams and Eggs for Breakfast", a major social event for Wausau area Amateurs. He died December 11, 2000, after a series of illnesses. |
