Frank Jaeger NP2I, died of a heart attack in the U.S. Virgin Islands where he lived. He was originally from Merrill, Wisconsin, and was a charter member of the RMRA and its first president.
He was an electrician by trade and was the owner of Jaeger Electric in Merrill.
He was involved in the early engineering of the 146.22/.82 repeater, and the subsequent refinement of the antenna system. In 1977, he was a member of the three man tower crew that elevated the antenna to its present 300 foot height on the main tower.
In 1980, he developed a repeater based emergency tone activation system. Its purpose was to alert area Amateurs of an emergency situation. The protocol was proposed as a North American standard. It gained national recognition when it was the subject of a construction article in QST Magazine. (QST Jan 1981, p24, The ARES Standard-Tone Alert System, by Frank Jaeger WA9SQN)
He moved to the Virgin Islands in the mid 1980s.
Dates and details of Frank's death are not yet available.
