Norman E. Lerch was an Amateur Radio operator for over half a century. Among his many accomplishments were the ARRL Worked All States and Worked All Continents awards. He was an avid radio-teletype enthusiast.
He was a World War II veteran having served in the United States Navy. Norm taught electronics at the Northcentral Technical College in Wausau for 34 years, retiring in 1979. His hobbies included bee keeping, maple syrup making, gardening, camping, traveling, bird watching, fishing, and working with his computer. He married Elizabeth (Betty) Hanne K9BMP in 1936. She was first licensed in 1954. Elizabeth died in 2000. Norm was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Wausau. He died April 16, 2002 after a short illness at age 87. He was the father of Mary Zastrow W9NMC and father-in-law of Jim Zastrow AB9BW. |
