Jim Woolsey was active in many facets of Amateur Radio including the RMRA.

He was born in Delavan, Wisconsin. In 1957 married Ruth Burmeister in Waukesha.

After serving in the United States Army during the Korean War, he received his master's degree from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. He taught at the University of Morth Dakota from 1961 to 1966 and UW - Oshkosh from 1966 to 1969. Jim was a communications instructor at North Central Technical Institute (now Northcentral Technical College) in Wausau from 1969 until his death. He also served as the faculty advisor to the NCTI Amateur Radio club.

In addition to Amateur Radio, he was active in the Boy Scouts most of his life.

He was the father of KA9HQE.

He died September 22nd 1984, after a long battle with cancer.
